When I think of a mountain, I see an incredible mass of rock. It is majestic, bigger than life, unmovable. Here in Arizona, we hike them and enjoy sunsets from their high tops. So, when Jesus said, “If you believe you can move mountains, and it will be done for you, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” What was he talking about? How are the two even comparable? I’m here to testify, without massive earthquakes or purposeful explosions, not one person is moving mountains into seas, but I think the point here is that we need a God size perspective on prayer.
My son and I recently watched the Movie Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey. It’s amazing the power of movies to provoke curiosity into the unknown. Matthew McConaughey , aka “Cooper” travels into a blackhole which lands him into a 5 dimensional time like continuum to communicate with his daughter back on Earth. So I thought, what is a black hole anyway? According to NASA, “Black holes can be big or small. Scientists think the smallest black holes are as small as just one atom. These black holes are very tiny but have the mass of a large mountain. Mass is the amount of matter, or “stuff,” in an object.” Wait, did I read that correctly? A black hole as tiny as the size of an atom can hold the mass of a Mountain? Did you know that an atom is a million times smaller than the thickest human hair? Amazing!
Jesus words just took on a new meaning. I’m getting a refreshed perspective and renewed hope, a God size viewpoint on our faith and prayer. Jesus said, do not doubt, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open. Our atom size faith is enough, a mountain becomes as light as a hair! What is impossible in our natural mind and with our human eyes is only a matter of perspective! While God is probably not interested in moving physical mountains for your pleasure, he certainly cares about all the hopes, dreams and desires in your heart. So pray and BELIEVE…because your obstacles are but microscopic atoms and tiny hairs!
Matthew 21:21-23 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
